I'm using a brand new battery-operated grinder for light tasks like removing rust with a wire wheel, but it overheats the batteries really fast. I have to stop and swap the batteries to cool them down about every 10 minutes. Is this normal for battery grinders? I switched from a corded Dewalt grinder that never had this issue. If I have to keep changing batteries so often, I might as well stick with the corded option!

Grinders are seriously hard on batteries. It’s like putting a brake on with one of those ultra abrasive disks; it’s draining! Just so you know, running a grinder is quite demanding on those packs, and even the better models can struggle, especially if you're working continuously. Switching to cord might just save you the hassle.
What battery size do you have? I normally use the M18 Fuel grinder with five amp-hour batteries. I can usually get about 15 minutes of work before needing to swap the battery. Wire wheel tasks typically last longer, but they might drain quicker depending on what you're doing. It could be worth checking battery specifications!
Yeah, grinders can be really tough on batteries! I overheated a six-inch grinder within five minutes. For a five-inch fuel model, I've noticed that it can definitely push the limits of the battery, especially if you’re really going at it. Honestly, if you’re planning to use it for long stretches, a corded grinder might be less of a headache. Compression really doesn’t help those batteries last, either!
