Why is my new ceiling fan wobbling, and how can I fix it?

I just bought a ceiling fan from a chain store and installed it in my dining room, but it has developed a wobble. I've already tried tightening the blades, checking for warps, and adding weights to different parts, but nothing seems to help. Comparing it to a similar fan in my bedroom, which was installed by a handyman, it feels like the connections between the down rod, ceiling, and fan motor are much more rigid. Is that a normal difference? Do you think I need to disassemble everything, or is there something I might be missing?

Using a balancing kit can help resolve the wobbles. These kits usually come with a slider to test the balance at various points along the blades and weights to adjust it. Make sure you find that balance point, then attach the weight permanently to stabilize the fan.

Check if your fan is installed on a dedicated fan-rated box. If it’s mounted on an old electrical box not meant for fans, it could be loose and lead to wobbling when the fan runs. Make sure the box is secured properly to support the fan's motion. If it is a fan-rated box, consider using a balancing kit to fix the wobble; it might have come with your fan.

If there was a different fan in place before, go back to the ceiling box and double-check that it's properly secured. Ensure the mounting bracket for the fan is tight against the box and that everything is secure against the ceiling.
