I just installed a new toilet in my basement, and now whenever I flush it, I hear a gurgling noise coming from the floor drain. This never happened with the old toilet, and it seems fine when I flush the toilet upstairs. Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?

Another thing to check is your sump pump, if you have one. Gurgling can sometimes indicate that the pump isn’t working properly. However, since you mentioned you don’t have a sump pump, it could still be the venting issue. If it was working fine with the previous toilet, it might be worth investigating if there's any blockage or if you need to add some water to the floor drain to help with flow.
It sounds like you might be dealing with improper venting. The gurgling usually indicates that air isn't able to escape properly when water is being flushed. This can happen if your plumbing vent is blocked or if there isn’t enough venting for the new toilet's setup. You might want to check your venting situation just to be sure.
But it’s odd that it only started after you switched toilets. You might need to take a closer look at how everything is connected.

I see what you mean. I’ll try adding some water to the floor drain and see if that makes a difference!
