Why is My New Washing Machine Shaking So Much on Its Platform?

I just set up my new Miele stackable washer on a built-in platform in my kitchen that I've constructed. The platform measures 2'x2'x3.5" and is made from 2x4 studs anchored to the floor with Simpson ties, aiming to reduce noise from the basement underneath. However, during its first load, the kitchen shook violently, and the noise was so loud it hurt my ears a bit. The washing machine seems to be sitting level and isn't wobbling. I'm wondering if the platform or its anchoring might be the cause of this shaking issue.

You might want to consider adding some sort of insulation inside your platform to help with the noise. What you're experiencing sounds like it could be mechanical coupling with your floor. You could also invest in washing machine isolation pads, which are designed to absorb vibrations. I use rubber wedges since my platforms don't fit perfectly; they can make a big difference, just ensure the machine isn’t touching any walls while spinning either.

Since the machine is new, it's worth checking if you've removed the installation bolts, which are sometimes missed. These bolts are there to secure the machine during shipping and should absolutely be taken out before first use. Also, double-check if the washer is perfectly level and balanced; even a slight tilt can cause lots of shaking!

If your washing machine is fairly new, the problem might be with its shock absorbers. These can wear out over time, causing excessive vibration. They're not too tough to replace yourself—check out RepairClinic for the parts specific to your model. I had a similar issue with my LG washer and after replacing the three shock absorbers for about $100, it no longer shakes! You might even find helpful DIY videos on YouTube.

It's brand new as of May this year and it's a high-quality machine, so I don't think that's the issue. It wasn't shaking more than it did in its previous spot. But thanks for the tip on shock absorbers!
