Why is my SDS drill turning by hand on the chisel setting?

Hey everyone! I have a bit of a problem with my SDS drill. It can still be turned manually even when it's set to the chisel mode, and I've noticed it making a grinding noise. Can anyone shed some light on what might be going wrong? Appreciate any help!

It sounds like there might be an issue with the clutch or the gearing in your drill. If it’s grinding, that’s definitely not ideal. I’d suggest opening it up to see if any parts are worn out or damaged. If it’s way beyond repair, maybe it’s time to consider getting a new one!

Good point! If it’s making that noise, definitely check for any visible damage first.
