Why Is My Shower Not Getting Cold Water After Disconnecting the Hot Water Tank?

I recently had an issue where my hot water tank blew, so I had to disconnect it to save some water until the plumber arrives on Tuesday. Now, I've got cold water flowing just fine everywhere else in the house, but my showers are completely dry. I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on why this might be happening. Both of my showers have mixer valves; could trapped air be the culprit? If so, how can I fix this?

It seems like you might be dealing with a pressure balancing issue with your mixer valves. When you disconnect the hot water, it can sometimes affect the pressure balance, especially in mixed systems. You could try adjusting the mixer valves to see if that helps restore the cold water flow.

Without a piping diagram or visuals, it’s really hard to pinpoint the issue. From what you described, it sounds like your main water supply splits in different directions, and since everything else works, that's a good sign. It could be worth checking if there’s any blockage or air trapped in the system specifically affecting the showers.
