I recently started building a workbench and managed to screw the bottom shelf/support frame together. I double-checked that the flatter sides were aligned before fastening, but now the frame has warped unexpectedly. I've been storing this lumber in my garage for a few months, so it's not brand new. I used a speed square to align everything, but something went wrong. What might have happened, and how can I fix this without having to buy more wood? Also, how can I prevent mistakes on the top shelf construction I planned for today? By the way, I've used three screws per pocket hole—two on one side and one in between. Is this overkill? This is my first real project, and I'm getting used to all the tools. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the usual struggle with dimensional lumber from big box stores. Getting perfectly straight boards is a rare gem! Once you finish the workbench, don’t be surprised if it levels itself out somewhat. I added leveling feet to mine, which helped keep it flat despite any imperfections. Also, don’t stress too much; most projects have their quirks!

Thanks for the tip! I wanted to keep costs down for my first project, so I spent a good amount of time searching for decent boards. It helps to hear it might work out in the end!
