Why isn’t my electric lunchbox working with the Top Off?

You guys, I bought this 80w electric lunchbox on Amazon so I could heat food at work without dragging a microwave around. I thought the Top Off, which is rated for up to 175w, would make it easy to heat my lunch in places without power. But it's not working at all! I've seen videos on TikTok of people using their Top Off with devices like curling irons, so I'm confused as to why my lunchbox keeps failing. What am I missing?

It sounds like you're hitting a snag with the power draw. Those electric lunchboxes often claim an 80w rating, but they're usually cycling on and off, meaning that their average draw can vary. If you have a multimeter or a Kill A Watt device handy, I’d check the actual draw. Also, keep in mind not everything on TikTok is accurate!

Yeah, I've got a Kill A Watt device I can use to check it out!

If your lunchbox can plug into both 110V and a 12V cigarette lighter, then it should work with the Top Off. Have you tried it in your car? It might just need that connection to power up properly!

I did try that! It worked perfectly when I plugged it into my car.

Did you mention how the lunchbox failed? It’ll help us understand the issue better. Also, if you have a measurement tool that could give you real-time readings, that'd be super useful!
