Why isn’t my GE window AC cooling the room?

I picked up a GE window air conditioner from Facebook marketplace, and the seller claimed it was brand new. However, despite setting it to 64 degrees and switching it to cooling mode, it's just blowing air without actually cooling the room. I checked the filter and it's clean. It's a 5,000 BTU unit. After some use, it feels like it's blowing slightly cold, but nothing like I expected. Any advice on why it's not cooling effectively?

You might not get a significant drop in temperature in a hot attic with a small window unit like that. Generally, expect a drop of about 15 to 20 degrees F from the outside temp, which can be tough if it’s super hot. Better insulation or a larger AC unit could help in the long run.

The size of your room matters a lot! A 5,000 BTU AC is typically meant for spaces around 100 to 150 square feet. If your room is in the attic and has poor insulation, the unit might struggle. Also, consider how hot it was before you turned it on; it might be overworked trying to cool it down from a high temp.
