I've noticed that tool walls and cabinets often incorporate plane tills, and I'm curious about the reasoning behind this design choice. I'm planning to build a tool cabinet soon and have already settled on the sizes of the bench planes I use. Is there a specific reason I shouldn't just opt for regular shelves instead?

Using plane tills allows you to store your planes more compactly since they can be stored vertically. This setup also makes it easier to grab a plane with one hand, which can save you time during your work.
