Why won’t Lowes tint primer any color besides gray?

I'm really frustrated with my experience at Lowes. I wanted them to tint a Valspar primer to a specific green to match my paint. Every can I see says it can be tinted, yet they only offered gray. I even provided a color code for them, but I still got gray. Has anyone else encountered this? Why can't they mix a quart of primer in any other color? I thought the whole point of primer was to be able to tint it!

I can totally relate! Sherwin Williams has a similar policy, but I’ve had better luck at Home Depot. They tinged my green primer without a hitch!

Yeah, Sherwin can be tricky sometimes with recommendations. But I agree that some colors just don’t go well with gray or white primer.

I think it might be more of a policy issue than a training one. Some Lowe’s stores are just really strict about what they can tint. If you want something specific, maybe check out a professional paint store? They usually have better options.
