Why Won’t My Drywall Mud Stick to the Wall?

I've been trying to fix a terrible drywall job done by my contractor, and I'm running into a major problem. No matter how hard I try, the drywall mud just won't stick to the wall; it just stays stuck to my putty knife. I'm using CGC Synko Lite Finish Mud mixed with 500mL of water, but it isn't working. I've tried various putty knives (4-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch), and I also shared a video of the issue here: https://imgur.com/a/8HynzGb. This is pretty frustrating! Any advice?

The main thing is that you need way more mud on that knife! Think of it like spreading cream cheese on a bagel - you don’t want to skimp on it. Make sure the knife is clean too; any old mud left on will mess with your application. Also, wet the walls a bit with a sponge to help adhesion.

Thanks for the tips! But what about the weird texture I'm getting? It looks kind of bubbly.

Hahaha, right? This is all about getting that perfect spread! Good luck!

It sounds like you're not using enough mud and your technique might need some work. When you're applying, start with an angle that puts more mud on the wall, then gradually adjust. Try practicing on a flat surface first to avoid complications in corners. It’s all about the technique!

Good point! I didn’t even think about practicing on a flat wall. I’ll give that a shot.
