Why Won’t My Wildflowers Grow?

Asked By SunnyDays89 On

Last year, I tried my hand at planting wildflower seeds, thinking it would be a cinch. I used fresh soil packed with nutrients, picked the sunniest spots in my garden, and cleared out all the weeds and debris. I even made sure to scatter the seeds evenly by hand and pressed them into the soil for good contact. Since I'm located in Oregon, I figured the water wouldn't be an issue. But despite all my efforts, not a single wildflower sprouted. What could I have done wrong?

It sounds like you did quite a bit right! Have you thought about reaching out to your local extension office or a nearby gardening center for seed recommendations? Sometimes the seeds you find at places like Home Depot might not be ideal for your area. Also, growing wildflowers can take some time. My neighbor has been cultivating his bee-friendly patch for years to get it just right! Just be patient; these things don't happen overnight!

Totally agree! A local nursery might have the best options for native species that actually thrive in your conditions.

Quick question, where did you get your seeds from? That can make a huge difference!

I got them from Home Depot.
