Will Blue Tape Damage My Fresh Stain?

Asked By CraftyFox92 On

I recently stained a project on Sunday and I'm looking to cover a part of it on Wednesday. I'm thinking about using some blue tape to secure a piece of paper over that area, but I'm worried it might ruin the stain since it's only been three days. Any tips or alternative suggestions to keep that section out of sight while I finish the rest? Thanks!

If you're using blue tape, it shouldn’t damage the stain unless you’ve got a finish on top of it. The stain should be dry after three days, especially in summer. Just make sure the stain is fully cured and maybe do a test on a hidden spot just to be safe!

Honestly, I wouldn't even lay paper on a stain that's just three days old for more than a few minutes. If I were you, I'd wait at least two weeks before taping anything down. Rushing the finishing can lead to some messy outcomes, trust me on that!

It really depends on your climate. In humid areas, things might take longer to dry, so be cautious. If you're just trying to keep it out of sight, as long as the stain is dry, you should be good. Just don’t use that tape on freshly stained areas longer than necessary!
