I've come across mixed information about onion sets. Some sources say they'll eventually form bulbs, while others claim I'll only end up with green onions. A few weeks ago, I planted some in zone 10a, and I've started seeing green shoots. Is there any chance they'll turn into actual onions?

The variety of onion you chose and how you fertilized them matters a lot. If you went with bulbing types and didn’t fertilize, they might not bulb up at all. Just something to keep in mind!
It also hinges on how you planted your sets. If you left the tip above ground, there's a good chance you'll get bulbs. If you buried them too deep, you might only see green onions. I’ve had varying results with mine too!
I made sure the tips were sticking out. Here’s hoping for the best!
It really depends on how far apart you planted the onion sets. If they're too close together, you'll get smaller bulbs. Just a heads-up, they don’t like being crowded.
I spaced them about 4-5 inches apart, but I've had no luck with seeds in the past. Thought onions were supposed to be a piece of cake!

Thanks for the tip! I mixed in some rich compost at planting, so hopefully that'll help them along.
