Will My Peony Grow Back After I Damaged the New Shoots?

I recently tried to move my Peony plant, but I accidentally knocked off its new growth, which looked like tiny asparagus tips that hadn't unfurled yet. I know I should have waited longer, but the plant had to be relocated. I'm really worried that I've killed it completely. Is there a chance it will recover and produce new shoots this year or next? Should I keep the tuber?

I can relate! My neighbor accidentally knocked over her bike onto my Peony bed, snapping my only stem. It’s heartbreaking! But I’ve read that as long as you get a good root ball and take care of it, there's a chance it may come back. They can be resilient if treated well!

Yeah, Peonies do dislike being moved! If you dug up a good root ball and have watered it well, there’s hope. Just keep it moist, especially in dry weather, and you might be surprised. Personally, I’ve moved mine in autumn and they still flowered beautifully the next spring!

It's still early in the season, so your Peony might just surprise you and send out another shoot! Just give it some time and see what happens.
