Will My Peony Roots Sprout This Season?

I recently got some peony roots from Costco and planted them yesterday in zone 5b. I'm curious if I can expect any sprouting this season, even though I know I won't see any blooms this year. Will they at least pop up above the soil?

From what I've experienced with Costco peonies, it’s common to see some foliage in the same year you plant them. Did you notice any growth on the roots before planting? If there were visible "eyes" on them, that’s a good sign!

It's definitely possible! Whether you see them sprout depends on the age of the roots and how many healthy buds they have. Just a quick tip: make sure you planted them shallowly, only about an inch or two deep. A lot of folks get frustrated because they buried them too deep. Good luck!
