Will Running My Furnace Without a Filter Cause Damage?

0
Asked By FurnAce123 On

I recently had my furnace ducts cleaned, and afterwards, the maintenance guy tested the furnace to ensure it was working correctly. However, he forgot to put a filter in the furnace while running it for about 5 to 7 minutes before finally installing the filter. I'm concerned if this could cause any damage to my furnace. Any thoughts or insights?

Your ducts were just cleaned, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. The furnace should be fine!

It’s probably fine for the furnace itself, but just remember that any dirt or dust that was previously in the ducts might have circulated into your home before getting caught in the new filter or possibly the AC coils if you have those.

Nope, you're all good! Running the furnace without a filter for a short time like that won’t hurt it.

Thank you.
