I'm working on restoring my 100-year-old house and want to replace the accordion doors with regular swinging ones. The hinge notches are already there, and I suspect they might make the hinge stick out too far from the door frame. How much should a hinge typically overlap the edge of the door frame? I want to make sure everything fits nicely since I just spent $250 on a new pine door!

From what I can see, the notches look pretty decent. As long as the hinge doesn’t stick out too much when it's attached, you should be fine! Just make sure to test it before fully committing to the installation. Good luck with your door!
Those notches seem to be just about right—they're not too deep, but they're definitely on the edge of what’s acceptable. The height and depth look good, but the width might be a little concerning. It's worth checking how far the hinge actually sits once installed to ensure it aligns perfectly with the frame.
