Wondering About Mystery Cables in My Backyard – Any Ideas?

Asked By User1234!@# On

I've noticed a couple of coaxial cables sticking out of the ground in my backyard and I'm a bit perplexed about what they could be for. I contacted the utility marking service (811 in my state), but they didn't indicate anything related to those cables. Does anyone have suggestions on how to find out their purpose? I should mention that Comcast is coming tomorrow to check them out, but I'd like to have an idea beforehand. Thanks!

Or, you could go wild and just lick it! Just kidding, don't do that. ? Seriously though, if they aren’t marked and they’re coaxial, they probably won’t be a major concern if no utilities are involved. But definitely ask Comcast about it!

Could these cables be remnants from an old irrigation system? Sometimes homeowners leave behind low-voltage lighting lines or even wires for invisible fences when they’re done. They can often look like coaxial cables, so it’s worth thinking about. Just keep an eye on what Comcast says too!

It sounds like a mystery! If you can, try to get a picture of those cables next time, as visual info can really help. Otherwise, I’d guess that if it's coaxial, it might relate to TV service. People often find old lines from previous installations that weren't properly removed. You mentioned Comcast is checking them, so they should clarify things shortly too!

I totally get that! Pictures aren’t allowed here, though. If you could describe them more, maybe we can deduce something. Good luck with Comcast!
