I've recently fallen in love with woodworking after taking a course where I built my first end table. I'm eager to keep learning and create small furniture pieces like boxes and shelves. However, I live in a 60m² apartment with a partner and a cat, both of whom have asthma, which raises some concerns about space and dust. I think I can carve out about 4-5m² for my woodworking, starting with just hand tools and a drill. Is this enough space to work in? Also, how can I manage dust to keep my apartment clean? Any advice from those who've worked on woodworking projects in an apartment would be greatly appreciated!

When starting out, don't worry too much about having all the tools. Just use what you have, and as you progress, you'll understand what you need. I started woodworking on a glass table and gradually figured out how to make it work for my space. For dust, cutting outside helps, and a small shop vac is perfect for cleanups. You could also create a simple air filter with a box fan if dust gets to be an issue.
Consider utilizing your balcony for the messier parts of woodworking, like cutting and sanding, and keep the gluing and finishing indoors. Just remember that you'll need nice weather for this option! If that's too limiting, you might think about taking up a less messy craft like wood carving instead.
Have you thought about renting a shared creative space? Many towns have co-ops that offer affordable workspace where you can do woodworking. They often have tools available as well, although some might be in rough condition. It’s a great way to get out of your apartment and into a dedicated woodworking space!
