I'm really frustrated with the current room design apps out there. Tools like Planner 5D charge $25 a month but are super slow. IKEA's planner is limited to their furniture only, which is frustrating. Then there's Homestyler, which is just filled with ads and confusing menus. I'm considering creating a simple "Figma for room design" that would let you:
- Sketch your room in just 30 seconds
- Move furniture in real-time 3D
- Generate beautiful renders without any watermarks
- Cost only $12 a month, no complicated tiers.
Before I dive into coding this for two months, I want to know: Would you actually use something like this? Specifically, have you tried designing a room digitally? What issues did you face with the tools you've used? What is the maximum you would pay monthly for a tool that simply works? And would you prefer a monthly fee or a pay-per-export model ($3 per render)? I'm not trying to sell here, just looking to see if this idea is worth pursuing or if I'm just venting my frustrations.

With all the AI image generation tools out there, I’m not sure if I’d need another app. I think I could get pretty good dimensions and designs just by tweaking prompts with an LLM. If you’re savvy with that, you could get creative in a different way!
What do the pros use for interior design anyway? If you're coding something that rivals those tools, it might be worth the money!
Honestly, I wouldn’t pay for just a concept. Show me what it can do first! I break all sorts of software, so I’ll be cautious until I see it in action.
It would be awesome if you could license real pieces to use in designs. I mean, having purchasable furniture to drag and drop would really add value to your tool! Starting with generic models is fine, but if you could link to products later, that’d be a huge win for everyone!

Yeah, generic models are a good start. But I love the idea of shopping lists linking to real products that fit what you design. That could definitely attract brands and users!
