What Should I Do About My Sagging Floor?

Hey everyone, I bought my house about 8 months ago, a single-family built in 1948. I recently noticed that the dining room floor along the exterior wall is sagging in the center. The baseboard at both ends trends back up, but there's still a significant gap—almost half an inch at its widest point. The dark baseboards probably masked this issue during my inspection. I'm a bit worried this could be serious. Any thoughts on what might be causing it and what I should do?

You might want to take a look underneath the house. Sometimes overspanned joists can cause sagging. If you feel comfortable doing so, that could give you a better idea of what's going on under there.

It's pretty common for houses built in 1948 to have sloped floors due to natural settling or even design choices. Without seeing pictures, it's hard to say for sure, but it might not be a major issue. You could check if the sagging is consistent with other areas in the house too.
