Hey everyone! I'm pretty new to gardening and had a pretty good season last year with tomatoes, jalapeños, kale, and even some watermelons. I know it's often recommended to leave dead plants for fruit trees, but I'm unsure when I should pull out all the dead plants and re-seed. I think I might have waited too long to clear out the old ones, especially since the good weather for seeding is just around the corner here. I'd love to hear about your experiences and advice on this!

I tend to leave the roots in the ground as well. They eventually break down and help improve the soil structure. Plus, you can plant new seeds around them without any issues!
I usually cut my dead plants down at soil level during the fall and let them decompose naturally through winter. It’s a great way to give back to the soil! Just make sure to clear them out before you start planting new seeds.
