I picked up a DCCS677 chainsaw last year for an amazing price, much cheaper than the 620 model, but honestly, I don't really need such a heavy-duty tool. I'm wondering if the 12-inch bar from the 620 will fit on the 677, or if there are any compatible alternatives I could consider.

I understand where you're coming from, but be careful with using a 12-inch bar. If you're just cutting firewood or pruning, you might want to stick to something around 16 inches to avoid too much bending while in use.
You should be able to find bars that fit both saws. Check out the replacement kits for Oregon bars at places like Lowe's or Home Depot. They usually indicate compatibility with various brands. For your case, bars that are marked for DeWalt or Craftsman should do the trick since they're made by the same company.
I'm pretty sure you can use any size bar that fits your chainsaw. It's all about compatibility, so just make sure it matches the specifications of your DCCS677.
