I've been juggling a mix of large contract jobs and handyman work, but I'm struggling with how to better organize my tools. Currently, I'm using a mix of bags and boxes, and it's becoming frustrating because I can never find what I need. I'd love to see some photos of your setups or any advice on tool organization that really works for you!

As a finish worker, I often work in nice homes where dragging heavy toolboxes isn't an option! My strategy is to carry tools inside using canvas tarps and hand-carrying only what's necessary. I use a half stack setup in the corner on a tarp, which keeps things tidy and safe from damage. I also have a crate combo for paint and plaster, and a roller box for bigger tools, but I keep it light. Here’s how I manage everything: [https://imgur.com/a/okxBpE2](https://imgur.com/a/okxBpE2)!
Instead of getting too caught up in the type of storage units you’re using, focus on how you organize your tools. I have my core tools organized so they can stay in my van all the time, since these are the ones I use most often, and they aren't limited to just one job type. For specialty tools, I store them in large plastic totes. This way, I only grab what I need for each specific job, like plumbing, electrical, or automotive tools.
It really depends on how you're transporting your tools—are you using a truck, van, or something else? I have a job box on my open trailer and I've invested in the Packout system. It's a bit pricey, but worth it for the time savings. I have around 50 different units that I move in and out based on what I need. Keep your organization intuitive; for instance, don’t store welding gloves with a trim nailer. If something’s missing, you want to notice it quickly!
