I've routed end grain with a quality spiral bit and ended up with a beautifully smooth and clear finish—almost glassy. However, when it comes to sanding, I find it really challenging to avoid that 'fogging up' effect or losing contrast in the wood's appearance. My theory is that sanding dust might be getting into the pores. Does anyone have tips or techniques for achieving a pristine final sanding or surface prep while keeping that clear, glassy look? I even posted a quick example to showcase the whitening effect I'm seeing.

I haven’t had this issue before, but I usually sand the end grain at double the grit compared to the rest of the piece. That might help prevent the fogging since it allows for a more even stain application later.
