Repairmen Won’t Fix Our Washing Machine—What Should We Do?

We've had two washing machine repairmen come to fix our broken washer, but they both refused to work on it. They said that the way it's installed is problematic, and if they pull it out, something might break because they're unsure about the length of the water lines. We suspect the hot and cold lines might be switched because the wash cycles seem off. Here's a photo of the setup. Do you think they're really justified in not wanting to help, or are they just avoiding the job? Any tips on how we can get this resolved?

I totally get why they’re being cautious. It might be a good idea to turn off the main water supply, open a tap to relieve pressure, and then pull the washer out yourself before the repair guys arrive. If it’s just about switching those hoses, you could likely handle that on your own. I’d suspect the original install had standard 6-ft lines, but if they're too short, you’ll want to replace them anyway.

That sounds like a solid plan! You know, you might also just be able to shut off the valves right at the washer, disconnect the drain line, and drain any remaining water. That could save you from having to shut off the main.
