What are some bird and pollinator friendly plants for a raised garden bed?

Hey everyone! For my mom's birthday, I'm setting up a raised garden bed filled with plants that attract birds and other pollinators. She's been showing some early signs of forgetfulness, but she really loves birds. I think this garden will be a great way to keep her active and enjoying the outdoors. I'm going to make it easier on myself by using a kit from Home Depot for the bed, but I need suggestions for plants! I've seen plenty of info about pollinator plants, but many aren't suited for raised beds, which is a must due to her knees. I'm open to any plants—flowers, herbs, veggies—anything that's easy to grow and can survive in Virginia, even if it's occasionally neglected. Thanks in advance!

For a vibrant selection, go with Phlox, Black-Eyed Susans, and Blanket Flowers. They’re hardy and look fantastic!

Milkweed is a fantastic pick—super easy to care for and crucial for attracting pollinators! Plus, it’s a must for Monarch butterflies.

Zinnias and Marigolds are perfect; they bloom all summer long! Also, try adding Dill and Lavender—they’re favored by pollinators. Don't forget Goldenrod and Asters for fall food, plus Milkweed for Monarchs to lay eggs on. It’ll create a lively habitat!

You should definitely consider planting Salvia and Bee Balm, as well as Milkweed (just not the swamp variety unless it's moist). Coneflower and Black-Eyed Susans are also great choices. My wife has put in Nigellas, Bachelor's Buttons, Zinnias, and Marigolds too, even though some of those might not directly appeal to birds. It's a wonderful idea you're doing for your mom! Best of luck!
