I'm trying to find some good perennial vines that will thrive on my chain-link fence. I currently have a large, unattractive chain-link fence around my backyard, and I'm not in a position to replace it financially right now. I'd like to grow vines that will last through the winter. Initially, I thought about using English Ivy, but I've heard it doesn't do well on chain-link; it seems to prefer wood or concrete instead. I'm also looking for options that include flowering perennials. I love the look of morning glories and thunbergia, but I want to avoid having to replant every year and deal with a bare fence during winter. I'm situated in zone 7A, so any advice would be appreciated!

Honestly, I’d recommend considering shrubs instead of vines. Vines can be tough to manage and remove later. You might want to plant something like panicle hydrangea for a nice hedge. If you really want to go with vines, clematis could work well in shaded areas.
