I was looking over the box for a new cordless drill battery and it says that it is a Li-Ion battery. What does this mean and why is it a good thing?

Li-Ion stands for lithium ion. Lithium ion batteries are much better than any older battery tech we have. We still need batteries to make a big leap in the tech they use but for the moment, lithium ion batteries or Li-Ion are the best ones you can get for the moment. So for the battery you have, it is a pretty good one.
