Hey everyone! I'm trying to figure out what battery size is ideal for my installation driver. I'm currently using the CP2.0 batteries that came with it, but I also grabbed a kit that has two more CP2.0 batteries. I used to be all about M18 gear, but I'm looking to dive back into the M12 platform, especially since it has improved a lot over the years. I noticed Home Depot has a promotion where if you buy a 5.0 battery, you can get a free item, including a 2-pack of 3.0 batteries. There's also another sale for a 2-pack of 3.0s and a 5.0 for $129 total. I'm leaning toward buying one of these deals to stock up for future M12 tools. However, I'm curious if the 5.0 HO battery will really enhance performance, or if I should stick with the CP2.0s. I've heard that the 5.0 HO is more reliable than the 6.0s but wanted some feedback on the XC 3.0s as well. What do you all think?

I usually stick to CP batteries for my installation driver since they let it stand up better. The installation driver doesn’t really need the extra power of the HO batteries. I’ve used 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 batteries without issue; the main difference is just runtime. The 5.0 is a solid choice, especially for tools that really benefit from more power, like the stubby or circular saw. As for the XC 3.0s, they don’t seem to have a strong reputation compared to others like the 6.0s or even the CP3s.
I really don’t see the point of the XC3.0 batteries. For compactness and better balance, I prefer the CP2.5. If I need a bigger battery, it’s usually for the extra runtime, which the XC3.0 doesn’t really deliver.
