Why is my bathtub shower water brown at first?

I've noticed that the very first splash of water from my bathtub shower comes out brown for just a second before clearing up. This issue doesn't seem to happen with any of the other pipes in my house, so I'm curious if there's something going on specifically with the shower pipe. Anyone have ideas?

It sounds like it could be rust from your water heater. It might be worth checking the bottom drain of the heater to see if anything comes out.

You might want to consider how old your house is. Older homes often have pipes that can rust over time. It could definitely be a factor here.

That's a good point! My house is quite old, so I'll check that out.
