Thoughts on Using Corian for Bathroom Floors?

I'm currently building a house and my architect has specified that we use Corian for most of the primary bathroom surfaces, including the floor, tub surround, and vanity. We hired a Corian fabricator to install the flooring, but they made a mistake by using regular tile thin set mortar, and unsurprisingly, it didn't adhere properly. They've since removed the Corian and cleaned it up, but now they're suggesting applying silicone over the remaining thin set on the waterproof membrane. I'm really worried that this approach isn't right, especially given the uneven surface. I'm also having doubts about using Corian on the floor at all, based on some of the things I've read. I'd love to hear any advice or insights from anyone who has experience with Corian!

You definitely need someone who knows the ins and outs of Corian installation. Sounds like the first installer was just winging it. Corian can be tricky, especially on flooring where it requires a solid, flat base. I'd be skeptical of just slapping silicone on top of a bumpy mortar bed; that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I haven't really heard of people using Corian for floors. It's more common on walls and surfaces, especially in commercial settings. Corian flooring can crack under pressure and isn't great with temperature changes. If you're considering it for residential use, I'd think twice! It makes sense that it was chosen for those curves, but it might be worth looking into other materials for the floor.
