How Can I Check What’s in My Attic Without Cutting a Hole?

I have a small hole in my ceiling but no access to an attic. I was thinking of using a borescope, but I'm worried that its light isn't bright enough to see anything. A pole inspection camera would be ideal, but those are super expensive. I'm looking for some creative solutions to peek into the attic without making an actual access hole for now since I plan to fix the ceiling later but can't afford it right away. Any suggestions?

You might want to try using a selfie stick with your phone. Just poke it up there with the flashlight on and record a video. It sounds goofy, but it can really work if your hole is big enough for your phone to fit through. Just be careful not to drop your phone into the darkness! It's a pretty cost-effective method.

If you've got some LED work lights, you could string them through your rafters. I used a small 6-watt LED temporary work light and plugged it into the garage ceiling box. This way, you can turn on the lights before you go up there. It's a good way to illuminate the area without making a big mess or needing to access it directly.
