I'm planning to paint my pine wood night table and shelves white, but I'm uncertain about the best type of paint to use. The wood has a slight sheen, and I'm not sure if it's due to a coating or just the nature of the wood. I've read that oil-based paint is durable but can become glossy and yellow over time, which I want to avoid. I prefer a matte finish that will stay white. What do you think is the best paint option for this project?

If the wood’s glossy, make sure to scuff sand it a bit first. Using a shellac primer will help a ton with pine, and after that, you can use whatever finish paint you prefer.
I'd recommend starting with a good quality primer, like Kilz, before applying an enamel paint. Pine resin can seep through, so a couple of coats of primer will help prevent that from happening. Then finish with an enamel for durability.

Thanks for the tip! Do you have a specific enamel brand that you like?
