Tips for Staining and Sealing a Butcher Block Countertop

I'm new to woodworking and I'm about to start staining and sealing a butcher block countertop for my basement bar. I've been diving into Reddit threads and YouTube videos for advice, but I could use some help with the best way to finish the underside of the countertop. My main worry is that I'll have it resting on two sawhorses. Should I use something like stilts to lift it and better reach the areas that would be in contact with the sawhorses? Or is it better to just move it a bit once it's dry to the touch and hit those spots afterward? I'd love to hear how others handle this to avoid leaving unfinished lines. Thanks!

Honestly, you might want to consider if the bottom will even be visible once it’s all installed. If it isn’t, it's probably not a huge deal. But for peace of mind, applying the same stain and sealer on the underside is a good move. It helps with warping and cracking. Just make sure you’ve got a gap for expansion when you attach it to the cabinets. No need to stress too much, you’ve got this!

Good point! It makes sense to just do the whole thing to keep it consistent. Better safe than sorry!

Looks awesome! Just finished my first coat and it’s looking slick! I’d say just move it briefly after it’s touch dry to do those bottom portions. It’ll be easier and should prevent any awkward issues with unfinished bits.
